When is right time to study?

There is no one-size-fits-all ideal time to study. Understanding how the brain works has helped me to know tasks that are suitable for execution at various times of the day. Let me answer this question scientifically by looking at what psychologists say.

The brain processes information differently at different times of the day. The brain’s performance is at the peak the first two hours after waking up. In my case I wake up at 5:00 am and I know that my brain’s peak performance is between 7:00 to 9:00 am. Therefore I allot the most difficult tasks such as studying new topics to this time.

Six to twelve hours after waking up is ideal for association. In my case this covers the afternoon hours (12 to 6 pm). This doesn’t mean that you should waste all your afternoon hours chatting useless stories with friends. For me this time is ideal for group work.

In the evening, the brain slows down. The body is tired and there is no need to check what’s on the today’s to-do-list since most activities have been completed.  Evenings are the right time to evaluate your previous performance and strategize. Evenings are also the right time to plan for the next day. . Allotting right task X to the right time Y on the calendar is an activity that requires time . Critical thinking has to be employed.

“Every ten minutes spent in planning saves an hour in execution”

Mostly people who think that thinking is easy are the ones who have problems in doing it. Good thoughts don’t go out searching for people. Invest at least 90 minutes every evening in meditation, thinking and write down every important idea that comes in your head.

If you wake up at the same time as I do and you ask me “what’s the best time to study?” the answer is, during the day. Complete much of your work during the day. Squeeze school work between classes, meetings, etc. Always take a book with you in case you have free time while you do something else.

In addition most people are contactable during the day. You won’t be able to ask anyone if you have a problem while studying at night. If you encounter a problem during the day, you can ask you friends, your professor or visit the library which is impractical at night. see a day in the life of a straight A student.
