5 secrets to getting the most out of class time.

missing a class is the stupidest thing a student can do.
however not all students present in class yield maximum benefits. there are a number factors that contribute to this difference. below i have explained the the things you should do as well as the things you shouldn't do in order to benefit more from class time.

1. come prepared.

make sure you read before going to class. this will make it easier for you to follow the lesson and take effective notes.
if you don't understand a certain concept you should mark this area so that you should pay attention during lecture time.

2. arrive early

showing up late is a sign of rudeness everywhere. In this case your professor will take you as rude person. This will injure your relationship with the professor.
at the beginning of the lesson the professor gives examples, definitions and other mind opening steps.  you wont be able to cultivate any sense from the lesson if you miss the introductory part in some courses.in addition you miss important announcements because most professors make announcements at the beginning of the lesson.

3. sit in front

I know this might sound like an uptight professor's advice but sitting in front is beneficial in the following ways

  • you won't have problems or seeing the power point slides if the class is large
  • you and your friends  won't distract distract each other
4. take organized notes

note taking is a vital component in the learning process. being an active process, taking notes during class improves concentration. most importantly, notes are useful for revision. follow the following tips in order to take organized notes.

  •   Write tittle of the lecture, Date and number the pages. This will make it easier for you to access the information when you need it.
  •     If you are using a note book leave blank spaces. These spaces will enable you to add information or comments later.
  •  Make your notes as short as possible. “Never use a sentence when you can use a phrase, or a phrase when you can use a word” (Berkeley).
  •  Go beyond power point slides. Most students make the mistake of copying the power point slides word for word. These are very brief and contain less information.  You should rather listen to what the professor is saying and copy more details, facts, explanations and examples.

5. minimize distractions
video games, Facebook, eating, etc. claim their share of attention. dividing your attention while learning only injures the learning process. if you have a phone with you use distraction blocking apps or switch it off.
