HOW TO STUDY IN COLLEGE( 10 TIPS)

This is a commonly asked question more especially among fresh men. High/secondary school and college are too different things. Even students who used to get good grades in high school find themselves struggling in college and you have made a very wise move to stop by and discover the best college studying practices. Before we proceed make sure you like the powerful study tips page so that you don’t miss any important tip.

1  1.    Start studying from day one

Don’t let work pile up. Start studying after the first class to avoid pulling all-nighters before an exam. That’s why you will find some students getting good grades without studying that hard days (or nights) before an exam. In reality these students do more than you realize. Starting to study early is more effective and less painful.
2.  Have the right mindset.
A right attitude is the key to achieve any goal. Most students fail before they enter any class. Don't  let anybody convince you that this is a bad lecturer/course because that will impact your grade in a negative way. Everybody is different and you aren’t one of the people who fail in this course.

3. Manage your time
Don’t be one of the students who believe that As are only achieved through overloading yourself with too much work to an extent of not getting the required amount of fun and sleep? Lack of play and sleep are the fruits of poor time management. Top performing students use techniques that most students don't use (yet simple), which enable them to have more fun and sleep time at the same time achieve excellent grades. Check the time management episodes on the POWERFUL STUDY TIPS page or visit our website (the one at the bottom of the picture) for more tips.

4. Study in short bursts
Studying for longer hours results into fatigue which compromises your ability to concentrate and you retain less information in the end. Study in short bursts (between classes, meetings and other activities) to achieve maximum concentration which will enable you to cover more work with less pain.

5.  Don’t move on when you don't get it

When you are in class or studying with your friends, ask right away if you aren't getting what the professor or your friends are saying. This saves the time to re-learn the material when you are alone. If the class is too big that you can’t ask, see the professor in office hours.

6. Minimize distractions

Evidently technology is helping students achieve both academic and non-academic goals. On the other side we should also know that it is a greater source of distraction. Tones of discipline are required when using technology, be it at school, home or work. Read how to avoid being impacted negatively by technology at the POWERFUL STUDY TIPS or website the one at the bottom in the picture

7.  Attend classes prepared
Make sure you read before going to class. This will make it easier for you to follow the lesson and take effective notes. If you don't understand a certain concept you should mark this area so that you should pay attention during lecture time.

8.  Attend classes
“80% of success is showing up” Woody Allen

Class attendance is very important in college education. Stop cooking up excuses
Because you don’t want to attend class. Make sure you find yourself in class
Whether it’s raining or you are waiting in line for a new star wars film. Some of the advantages of attending classes regularly are:
A. You earn attendance points
Most professors deduct marks or disqualify you if you abscond classes.
B. You have a clear picture of what will come during exams
C. It improves your relationship with the professor
D. You take notes on your own
Taking your own notes is a lot more important than just copying notes from
Your colleagues. Copying your own notes enhances learning because you
Copy what you understand and ask questions where you don’t understand
This solidifies understanding of the subject matter.
E. You don’t miss important announcements.
Students who don’t attend classes regularly often miss the due dates of
Assignments and quizzes because professors announce these things during
Class time.
9.  Don’t study one learning area the whole day
Studying one subject per day has the same effect as studying in the same environment. The brain gets used to the monotony of the subject this will cause your attention to wander off. Study 2-5 subjects per day to keep your concentration intact.

10. Use downtime wisely.
After submitting that big assignment which used to give a dozen of night nightmares, most students toss their school work aside and wait for another assignment to remember it. By doing this, work piles up and it will force you to pull all-nighters when the exams approach. It’s good to reward yourself after accomplishing such a big task but you should remember that the journey doesn’t end here. A day off your studies is enough to revitalize your mind. Always remember to “hustle while waiting” to enjoy more in life
